About GPS Logger
GPS Logger is a lightweight GPS tracking app that records your position and travel path with a focus on accuracy and battery efficiency. Built for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, cyclists, and anyone who needs reliable location logging, this app captures your journeys offline without requiring an internet connection or integrated maps.
The app excels at determining orthometric height—the altitude above sea level—especially when automatic altitude correction is enabled in settings. This makes it valuable for mountaineers, surveyors, and travelers who need precise elevation data. Manual altitude correction is also available if you prefer to add an overall offset yourself. Real-time track statistics display distance, speed, and elevation as you record, giving you immediate feedback on your activity.
Recording works in both foreground and background modes, allowing you to keep tracking even when the app isn't actively displayed. You can add annotations and placemarks to your tracks while recording, marking important locations or observations on the fly. Once your journey is complete, view and manage all recorded tracks in the in-app tracklist. Export your data in KML, GPX, or TXT formats, then share via email, Dropbox, Google Drive, FTP, or other services. Visualize your tracks using any installed external KML or GPX viewer directly from the tracklist—you're not locked into a single viewing tool.
The interface uses a modern, tabbed design with a low-consumption dark theme that preserves battery life during extended recordings. Choose between metric, imperial, or nautical units to match your preference. The app runs offline, meaning once it's downloaded, you don't need constant connectivity to track your position and log your routes.
Common use cases include keeping detailed records of hiking and cycling trips, making static and dynamic measurements for professional work, geotagging photos at precise locations, collaborating on OpenStreetMap edits with accurate ground data, and sharing your favorite routes with friends. Whether you're documenting a weekend adventure or gathering data for mapping projects, this GPS tracker provides the core functionality you need without unnecessary features or battery drain.
GPS Logger is free to download and open source, meaning the code is publicly available and community-driven. The app respects your privacy by accessing location only when needed and doesn't require broad permissions on Android 10 and later devices.
